Blown Fibre Units
The technologies associated with Sirocco® blown fibre are covered by patents
held with British Telecom (licensed to Prysmian) and Prysmian itself. These Mark 2 designs,
improving over the old Mark 1 single fibre unit solutions, are available in units ranging from 2
fibre to 12 fibre. The fibres are contained in an soft inner acrylate layer which cushions the
fibres, an outer harder layer which protects the fibre from damage and a low friction layer that
assists in improving blowing distance, which is typically up to 1,000 metres.
The Sirocco® units are available in a range of lengths up to 6,000 metres, supplied in pans.
The outer layer of the 2, 4 & 8 fibre units is colour coded to provide an indication of fibre
type.
