Prysmian in Australia
Prysmian's presence in Australia began in 1975 trading as Pirelli
Cables Australlia Ltd manufacturing both power and telecommunications cables in
Minto, New South Wales. Soon after, a factory site was established at Dee Why, on Sydney's northern
beaches, where the telecommunications cables manufacturing activities were
relocated leaving the Minto site to focus on power cables. Following the acquisition
of MM Cables in 1999, Prysmian consolidated the energy cables manufacturing activities
and internal sales operations of both companies into the Liverpool site rationalizing two
workforces into one, tendering transport and warehousing services and embracing structured process
improvement programs such as the internationally recognised ‘Six Sigma’ and ‘5S’ efficiency
programs, the world's leading methodologies in business improvement.
Today, from two production sites in Sydney, Prysmian Cables &
Systems manufactures and supplies the most comprehensive range of energy, data and
telecommunications cables to customers all over Australia as well as export markets around the
world. Prysmian is a major supplier to Telecommunications Carriers, Power Utilities,
Electrical Wholesalers & Contractors, Original Equipment Manufacturers, Petrochemical
and Mining facilities throughout Australia with an extensive range of products designed
to suit specific applications.
